US Stocks Bounce Back as Oil Prices and Treasury Yields Fall
The US stock market staged a significant rebound on October 17th, driven by a simultaneous decline in oil prices and Treasury yields. The Nasdaq Composite led the charge, surging 1.69% to close at 26,418.30, while the S&P 500 rose 1.14% to 7,637.74 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.62% to 51,779.85.
The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield fell back below 5%, dipping to 4.93%, as Brent crude settled at $104.82 per barrel and WTI at $101.91. Tech stocks played a major role in the rebound, with Intel jumping 7% and semiconductor shares climbing more than 3%.
According to Robert Pavlik, senior portfolio manager at Dakota Wealth, 'interest is returning to areas of the market that had been hit hard ahead of the Fed's rate hike.' This sentiment was reflected in the strong performance of technology stocks, with Nvidia and Amazon each rising over 2%.
