US Stocks Soar as Oil Prices Plummet Amid Eased Tensions
US stocks surged on Monday as tensions in the Middle East eased and oil prices plummeted. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 640 points, or 1.22%, to lead the charge. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite also gained ground, rising 0.59% and 0.49%, respectively.
The rally was sparked by President Donald Trump's announcement that he had called off planned strikes against Iran, with talks between the two countries set to resume on Monday. While Iran disputed the timing of the discussions, hopes of reduced geopolitical tensions weighed heavily on crude prices.
Brent crude dropped 4.9% and West Texas Intermediate crude fell 6.3%, which helped ease investor concerns about inflation and its impact on monetary policy. The decline in oil prices also led to a decrease in Treasury yields, with the 10-year yield slipping to around 4.67%.
This week's earnings reports will provide further insight into the health of the US economy, with several major companies set to release their quarterly results. Microsoft and Amazon have already reported strong earnings, but investors are bracing for a potentially mixed bag from other tech giants like Palantir and Advanced Micro Devices.
