US Stocks Start September on Weak Note Amid Rising Oil Prices and Middle East Tensions
US stock index futures started September on a weak note, with Dow Jones Industrial Average futures falling 0.55%, S&P 500 futures down 0.57%, and Nasdaq 100 futures slipping about 1.05% in pre-market trading.
The decline was attributed to rising oil prices, higher US Treasury yields, and escalating Middle East tensions, which dampened market risk appetite.
Nvidia (NVDA), Apple (AAPL), Tesla (TSLA), and Micron (MU) were among the focus of market attention, with Micron falling over 2% in pre-market trading due to strike threats from a union in Taiwan.
Historically, September has been a challenging month for stocks, with the S&P 500 Index posting an average net return of around -0.6% to -0.72% since 1950, making it the weakest month of the year.
