US Tech Executive Arrested Over Alleged $300M Nvidia Server Smuggling Operation
A US technology company owner has been arrested for allegedly smuggling Nvidia AI servers worth over $300 million to China, bypassing export controls through transit points in Malaysia and Singapore.
The indictment against Greg Lui, also known as Yiu Kong Lui, 38, of San Gabriel, California, includes charges of conspiracy to violate US export controls, outbound smuggling, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
According to the US Justice Department, the alleged scheme involved using false documents and complicated transshipment schemes to conceal China as the true destination for restricted AI technology.
The indictment details Lui's alleged efforts to evade US export laws, which aim to prevent sensitive technologies from falling into unauthorized hands, particularly in countries with restrictive policies on innovation and competition.
