US Wiretapping Claims Against Microsoft and Zillow Dismissed
A Washington federal judge has dismissed US wiretapping claims against Microsoft and Zillow over the use of Microsoft's Clarity session-replay technology.
The plaintiffs had alleged that the companies' use of the technology violated the Wiretap Act, which prohibits intercepting or recording private communications. However, Judge James L. Robart ruled that the plaintiffs exceeded the scope of leave to amend their complaint.
This decision comes after Microsoft and Zillow filed motions to dismiss the claims in October 2026. The judge's ruling allows the companies to move forward without facing potential penalties or liability related to the wiretapping allegations.
