Utah Man Charged With Stealing Over $15,000 from Home Improvement Stores

A Utah man has been charged with stealing over $15,000 from Lowe's and Home Depot using their self-checkout systems.

Michael Alan Williams, 46, allegedly used a method called 'skip-scanning' to steal the merchandise between February 18, 2025, and May 26, 2025, at Lowe's, and March 22, 2026, through June 7, 2026, at Home Depot.

According to court documents, Williams entered Lowe's 38 times and stole items worth $6,075.44 using the skip-scanning method each time.

The Lowe's Utah Organized Retail Crime Captain compared surveillance footage with receipts and confirmed that Williams had the missing items when he left the store.
