UX Expert Blasts Apple and Microsoft Over Abandoned Desktop Goals

Scott Jenson, a renowned UX expert, recently gave a talk at the KDE Community about desktop computing user experiences. In his presentation, he discussed how both Apple and Microsoft have given up on improving their desktop interfaces.

Jensen believes that Apple is prioritizing its ecosystem over desktop improvements by adding features like Liquid Glass to macOS, which ties it closer to the iPhone.

Microsoft, on the other hand, has made several mistakes in recent years, including forced OneDrive usage and the Recall disaster. Jensen also shared a personal anecdote about interviewing at Microsoft eight years ago (in 2018) for the head of UX position for Windows. He stated that when he interviewed, he was clear about his agenda to evolve the desktop experience.

Jensen's criticism of both companies suggests that they are more focused on their own ecosystems than on improving user experiences.
