Honeywell Aerospace has partnered with the Phoenix Aviation Department to study the implementation of surface alert technology on ground vehicles at three Valley airports. The decision follows a tragic accident in March, when a plane collided with a fire truck on the runway at New York's LaGuardia Airport, resulting in the deaths of two pilots and injuries to dozens more.

The surface alert technology aims to provide real-time alerts to drivers operating ground vehicles on airport runways. The study will assess its effectiveness and potential for expansion to other airports.
