Verizon Dumps $70 Million into Nationwide AI Training Effort
Verizon is investing $70 million in an effort to provide AI training to hundreds of thousands of people across the US. The telecom company is partnering with non-profit programs, including Goodwill Industries, and using resources from major tech companies such as IBM, Google, Anthropic, Microsoft, and OpenAI.
Verizon's CEO Dan Schulman said that 'AI will change the face of the workforce' and emphasized the importance of upskilling workers for specific AI-related jobs. He also called on large companies to join the effort to boost funding.
The new initiative adds $50 million to Verizon's existing investment in AI training, which was announced last year as part of a broader effort to help departing employees gain skills after job cuts.
