Verizon's CTO Enlists Industry Giants in 6G Innovation Forum
Verizon's CTO, Yago Tenorio, is focused on developing 6G technology with use cases in mind. This approach differs from previous efforts that centered on infrastructure capabilities.
Tenorio leads Verizon's 6G Innovation Forum (6GIF), which has added nine new partners, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Cisco Systems, Intel, and Nvidia, to its roster. The goal is to build the 6G standard from use cases down rather than starting with technology capabilities.
Recent trials have demonstrated that 5G networks can support sensing and communication capabilities, such as crowd-density detection at a FIFA World Cup game in Dallas and drone safety tracking at Qualcomm's San Diego campus. Tenorio believes these early efforts will inform the development of 6G and enable useful services to be delivered.
