The Okanagan Humane Society and Vernon's Animal Auxiliary Thrift Store are working together to help displaced pet owners in the area affected by the Bald Range fire near Summerland.

The OHS is seeking foster families for cats, dogs, and small animals that have been displaced due to the wildfire. Anyone interested in fostering can reach out to the OHS via email at [email protected] and complete a brief volunteer form found on their website.

In addition to fostering, the OHS is also accepting donations of cat and dog food, litter, boxes, and crates. A drop-off location will be provided depending on the city. The Animal Auxiliary Thrift Store in Vernon has set up a temporary shelter at the Elephant Storage facility on 25th Avenue, with shelving material donated by Home Depot.

The auxiliary's Gena Barzan expects the animal shelter to be operational within three days and is helping pet owners from all wildfires in the area. Pet food and supplies can be dropped off at the auxiliary store located at 3100A 29th Ave. For more information on the shelter, call Barzan at 250-438-0062.
