Veteran and Businessman Bob Rustad Passes Away at Age 88

Bob Rustad, an accomplished veteran and businessman, passed away on September 16, 2026, at the age of 88. Born in Aberdeen, SD, on March 9, 1938, he earned a business degree from the University of Virginia, where he excelled in basketball and ROTC.

Rustad went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant aboard the USS Sims and the USS O'Hare. After leaving the military, he spent over 30 years working for IBM, starting in Norfolk, VA, before relocating to Winston-Salem and retiring in 1995.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Rustad was an active member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church and contributed his time to various volunteer causes. He was also a passionate runner, having completed the Boston Marathon and run the Marine Corps Marathon twice.
