Veteran Family Man Windell McLendon Passes Away at Age 78
Windell Syrl McLendon, a devoted husband, father, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away on August 9, 2026. Born in Leaf, Mississippi, on December 2, 1947, Windell grew up to be a proud veteran who served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War as a BM3, Boatswain's Mate Third Class.
After his military service, Windell worked for over 15 years at Sherwin-Williams before retiring on disability. He was a lifetime member of the Floyd County Wildlife Club and a faithful member of Lakeview Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School.
Windell's family life was filled with love, and his marriage to Sandie McLendon in 1991 lasted nearly 35 years. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Windell's legacy of faith, service, and unconditional love will live on through every generation that follows him.
