A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner experienced an unusual takeoff at Munich Airport on August 15, striking its tail on the runway before returning to the airport for an emergency landing.

The incident occurred when the aircraft, bound for Hanoi, took off late and with a steep nose-up attitude, scraping its tail on the runway. Despite this damage, the plane managed to climb away from the airport.

After circling the area at around 9,000 feet, the crew dumped fuel before returning to Munich for an emergency landing. Several tyres were damaged during the landing, and the aircraft was unable to leave the runway under its own power.
