Vietnam Airlines Dreamliner Narrowly Avoids Disaster at Munich Airport

A near-miss incident occurred at Munich International Airport on August 15 when a Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, with 274 passengers on board, failed to take off from the Northern Runway. The aircraft, which was headed to Hanoi, overshot the runway by 120 meters before finally becoming airborne.

According to eyewitnesses and video footage, the plane accelerated down the entire length of the 4,000-meter-long concrete runway without taking off until it had reached the end of the strip. The pilots then informed air traffic control that they needed to return to the airport due to issues with takeoff.

The aircraft returned to Munich Airport and entered a holding pattern for 90 minutes to dump excess fuel, before attempting another takeoff. On its third approach, the plane landed safely but with smoke coming from the landing gear, indicating damage to the tires.
