Vietnam Calls for Global Support Amid Economic and Climate Challenges
Top Vietnamese leader President To Lam has called for further support and cooperation from major financial institutions, including JPMorganChase and Visa. During his trip to New York to attend the high-level general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), he held meetings with leaders of several countries, including Ghana, Bhutan, Timor-Leste, Switzerland, and Finland. In one meeting, To Lam asked the USABC to play a more active role as a bridge between Vietnam and the US private sector, encouraging its member businesses to share records and information to support the search for Vietnamese fallen soldiers.
Meanwhile, UN Under-Secretary-General Jean-Pierre Lacroix expressed his hope that Vietnam will continue to play a strong role in addressing climate change under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and promote emerging technologies. The country has also proposed establishing task forces to combat transnational scam networks.
The Vietnamese government is also focusing on digital transformation, with plans to adopt an Intelligent Operations Centre system that will help leaders quickly grasp situations and identify issues requiring attention. Additionally, a research project was launched to promote maritime diplomacy in Southeast Asia, focusing on building capacity among scholars and experts in maritime connectivity and governance.
