Visa and Mastercard Settle Lawsuit Over Independent ATM Fees
A massive settlement has been reached between Visa and Mastercard in a lawsuit alleging that their rules kept fees higher at independent ATMs, such as machines at gas stations, hotels, and convenience stores.
The settlement fund will be worth $167.5 million, and eligible claimants may receive a share of it if they paid an ATM fee between October 24, 2007, and August 14, 2026.
To qualify, the withdrawal must have come from a deposit account using an ATM or PIN-debit card, and credit card cash advances and prepaid card transactions are excluded.
The companies deny wrongdoing, stating that the settlement is not an admission of liability.
