Visa Leads the Pack as Financials Stocks Face Challenges
Financial firms have been thriving in recent times, thanks to a favorable economic backdrop. The industry has seen a 16% gain over the past six months, outperforming the S&P 500 by 5.1 percentage points.
However, not all financial companies will be able to sustain their growth in the long term. Fintech disruptors are increasingly taking market share from traditional players.
Among the financials stocks that are expected to face challenges is FactSet (FDS), a provider of financial data and analytics solutions. The company's sales have been sluggish, with only 5.8% annual growth over the last two years. Its earnings per share also lagged behind its peers during this period.
Another stock facing difficulties is Western Union (WU), a global money transfer service. The company has seen its sales tumble by 3.2% annually over the last five years, with each sale becoming less profitable as well. Western Union's earnings per share dropped by 5.3% annually over this period.
On the other hand, Visa (V) is poised to outperform its peers. The company has been growing rapidly, with a 14.5% annual revenue growth over the last five years. Its return on equity (ROE) also punches in at 49.2%, indicating strong management.
