Visa Pays $2.4 Billion for Israeli Fraud Prevention Company BioCatch
Visa has acquired Israeli digital fraud and financial crime protection company BioCatch for $2.4 billion in cash, marking one of the biggest deals in Israel's tech sector. The acquisition represents a significant increase in value from the previous sale of BioCatch to Permira private equity fund last March, which valued the company at $1.3 billion.
BioCatch has developed a system for managing user identities based on biological parameters such as mouse movements and individual browsing habits. The company's technology is used by over 350 banks worldwide, including 100 of the world's largest, to protect against financial crime. BioCatch also serves 1.8 billion devices and 760 million users globally.
CEO Gadi Mazor stated that the acquisition will not change the way BioCatch operates, with the company retaining its entire management team and reporting structure. BioCatch has reported a 43% growth in annual recurring revenue (ARR) in 2025, with ARR crossing the $100 million mark at the end of 2023.
The acquisition is a significant boost for Visa's efforts to expand its presence in the digital payments market and protect against financial crime. BioCatch's technology will be integrated into Visa's value-added services organization, allowing the company to continue serving its existing clients with enhanced capabilities.
