Visa's Stablecoin Growth Raises Questions About Its Future
Visa's stablecoin settlements saw a significant jump of 15 times in a year, but it's unclear whether this will strengthen its network grip or erode its economics. The stock currently trades near $370, close to its 52-week high of $385.57.
The company's quarterly payments volume crossed $4 trillion for the first time in its history, growing 10% year-over-year in constant dollars. However, CEO Ryan McInerney acknowledged that stablecoins 'have yet to scale beyond a few use cases like stable coin link cards that we've issued in various places around the world.'
Visa's advantage remains distribution: it processes 71.7 billion transactions in a quarter and has clients in over 200 countries and territories, which is what OpenUSD and the new Visa stablecoin platform plug into.
