Vital Widgets Outperforms Google's Widget in Health Tracking
Google turned Fitbit into Google Health 5.0 in May 2026 and introduced a new home screen widget as part of the update. The writer, who checks their steps and sleep several times a day, was disappointed with the widget's limited functionality.
The Google Health widget only shows today's data for six metrics and lacks trend lines or breakdowns of sleep stages. In contrast, Vital Widgets offers customizable widgets that provide more detailed information and can be placed anywhere on the home screen.
Vital Widgets allows users to split their health data into individual cards, each covering a different area such as steps, heart rate, recovery, sleep, calories, or vitals. The app also follows Material You dynamic colors and layouts that resize cleanly from 2x2 to a full dashboard.
