Volvo Cars Taps Horizon Platform for Faster Android Automotive OS Development
Accenture and Google Cloud have announced Volvo Cars as the lead industry partner for Horizon, an open-source software development platform. This partnership aims to help car makers and automotive suppliers build, test, and deploy software for Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS) more efficiently.
The Horizon platform will enable Volvo's engineers to migrate their global AAOS software development environment to a faster and more efficient workflow. This includes virtual testing environments and AI-assisted software development tools.
According to Gregor Zetsche, Head of Connected Experience at Volvo Cars, 'We're building some of the most complex products in the world, which requires a development environment built to match.'
The Horizon platform offers several benefits, including 9x faster testing using virtual Android Automotive environments and agentic AI, 40% lower costs for infotainment feature development, and rapid builds that cut feedback time from up to two hours down to minutes.
