Waldron Takes Step Closer to Goldman CEO Role Amid Solomon Departure Speculation
John Waldron is edging closer to becoming the next CEO of Goldman Sachs. The bank's board has discussed a succession plan that could see Waldron replace David Solomon in 2027 or 2028, according to people familiar with the matter.
The discussions do not amount to a final decision, with Goldman's global head of communications, Tony Fratto, stating that there is no definitive timeline for a change at the top. However, the latest reports underscore how far Waldron's status has evolved as he has been widely viewed as the natural successor to Solomon.
Waldron's career at Goldman began in 2000 when he joined after working alongside Solomon at Bear Stearns. He quickly established himself as a dealmaker and was made a managing director in 2001 and a partner in 2002.
