Wall Street Bounces Back on Treasury Yield Decline and Nvidia Deal
Wall Street indexes rose more than 1% each on Thursday as investors regained confidence after a few turbulent sessions. Sentiment was boosted by a decline in U.S. Treasury yields, which had reached multi-year highs due to concerns about inflation and unsustainable debt issuance.
The yield on the 10-year Treasury fell to 4.772%, while the 2-year yield dropped to 4.340%. Fed Governor Christopher Waller's comments also contributed to the positive mood, as he stated that recent data suggest signs of disinflation and expressed support for holding the federal funds rate at its current setting.
The technology sector saw significant gains, with software stocks rising on the back of a major deal in the industry. Nvidia confirmed it had agreed to buy open-source AI platform Hugging Face for nearly $13 billion. The acquisition is expected to provide Nvidia with access to a large ecosystem of developers and researchers.
