Walmart Expands Marketplace with ADT Blu Launch

Walmart's (WMT) marketplace expansion has taken another step forward with the launch of ADT Blu DIY home security system on Walmart.com. This move is part of a broader strategy to increase revenue through fee-based income, rather than relying solely on traditional sales.

The addition of ADT Blu and other third-party brands like RocketSports-1 women's activewear contributes to Walmart's shift towards higher margin areas such as fulfillment services and advertising. The company has reported that its marketplace business grew more than 50% in each of the first two quarters, with orders feeding into these higher-margin areas.

While this expansion is directionally helpful for Walmart's mix, it does not meaningfully change near-term earnings risk around costs, tariffs, and wage pressure. The company still faces challenges in executing its digital and international operations, where e-commerce remains loss-making and competition is intense.
