Walmart Heats Up Delivery War with Papa John's Partnership
Walmart's (WMT) latest delivery deal has got investors' mouths watering. The retail giant has partnered with Papa John's International (PZZA) to deliver food orders, including pizza and desserts, via its mobile app and website within 30 minutes or less.
The partnership will initially roll out in select markets before expanding to thousands of stores across the US. This marks Walmart's third recent delivery deal, following agreements with Dunkin' and Subway.
Unlike the previous deals, Papa John's does not have locations within Walmart stores, meaning customers will need to order food on its own or add it to other orders from Walmart, such as groceries.
Walmart's senior vice-president of e-commerce fulfillment innovation, Greg Cathey, described the expansion of restaurant options as a 'natural evolution', allowing customers more choice in cuisines and geographies. The delivery app market is projected to grow significantly, with Market Research Future estimating it will reach $225.77 billion by 2035.
