Warren Buffett Steps Down as Berkshire Hathaway Chairman
Berkshire Hathaway's leadership transition continues as Warren Buffett steps down as chairman. The company's culture and values will now be preserved by his oldest son, Howard Buffett.
As a non-executive chairman, Howard Buffett, 71, will focus on maintaining the company's legacy while allowing new CEO Greg Abel to adapt to changing market conditions.
Abel joined Berkshire in 2000 and became part of the leadership team in 2018. He has largely followed Warren Buffett's playbook since becoming CEO.
Berkshire Hathaway owns several prominent companies, including BNSF railroad, Geico car insurer, and a slew of energy, industrial, and retail businesses. Its stock portfolio includes American Express, Apple, and Coca-Cola.
