US Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass) warned that growing corporate consolidation is giving powerful companies and CEOs excessive influence over Americans' daily lives. She urged regulators to block mega-mergers, citing examples of vertical integration in industries like healthcare.

Warren argued that when a small group of companies control the economy, their CEOs dictate what consumers watch on TV, which doctors they can see, what food they eat, and even who has access to online services. She emphasized the need to block mega-mergers to prevent this kind of consolidation.

Warren specifically mentioned UnitedHealth Group (NYSE:UNH) and CVS Health Corp (NYSE:CVS) as examples of companies that have vertically integrated their operations, making it difficult for smaller competitors to enter these markets. She backed the bipartisan Patients Before Monopolies Act, which would prohibit common ownership of pharmacy benefit managers and pharmacies.
