Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been accused by Sen. Elizabeth Warren of having a conflict of interest due to a settlement with Merck, the manufacturer of the Gardasil vaccine.

According to Reuters and The Washington Post, Kennedy received financial benefits from the settlement. However, he claims that this is not true and that he personally received no money from the settlement or any other related transactions.

Kennedy stated on X that 'the alleged conflict comes from money I supposedly made from a settlement in a lawsuit against Merck for injuries caused by its Gardasil vaccine.' He emphasized that he never received a penny from the settlement, nor did his son or anyone else in his family.

The Washington Post editorial board accused Kennedy of having a conflict of interest that might bias him against Big Pharma. However, Kennedy pointed out the irony of media and politicians rushing to defend monopolistic businesses while attacking him for supposedly benefiting financially from the settlement.
