Wayne County Commission to Reconsider Data Center Tax Breaks

The Wayne County Commission is set to revisit its decision on tax incentives for a hyperscale data center project in Van Buren Township, after County Executive Warren Evans vetoed the agreement last week.

Evans' veto of $125 million in local tax incentives for 'Project Cannoli', operated by Google, was announced on September 25. The county commission plans to take up the topic at its October 1 meeting, but Chair Alisha Bell did not specify what action the commission will take.

Evans stated that he vetoed the agreement because the approval process had been rushed without an independent analysis or proper public input. He also expressed concern about allowing a private corporation to create urgency and then use it to force a decision.
