Westborough Residents Air Concerns Over Amazon Drone Delivery Plan
Amazon's Prime Air plans to introduce drone delivery in Westborough, Massachusetts, but residents are raising concerns about safety, noise, and privacy. The drones will operate out of an existing fulfillment center on Otis Street and can deliver items under 5 pounds in as little as 30 minutes.
State legislators have written a letter to Amazon expressing their worries about the plan. 'There is a distinct difference between operating delivery trucks on our neighborhood streets and flying dozens of camera-equipped drones in the skies above our homes,' said Sen. Michael Moore, D-Millbury.
'Many residents have expressed serious concerns regarding the environmental impact of drones on wildlife, especially birds,' added Rep. Kate Donaghue, D-Westborough. Amazon's Vice President of Economic Development, Holly Sullivan, responded that the company is committed to working with local officials and addressing the community's concerns.
