Western Union Taps Public Blockchains with Stablecoin-Powered Spending Card

Western Union has introduced Stablecard, a digital wallet and Visa-backed payment card designed to allow users to store money in USDPT stablecoins and spend it at traditional checkout counters.

The platform is live across 37 initial markets and plans to expand to over 60 countries by the end of the year. Users can receive cross-border transfers directly as digital dollars and spend them anywhere Visa is accepted worldwide.

Stablecard removes friction for people receiving remittances, particularly in countries experiencing severe currency devaluation. By linking a U.S. dollar digital asset wallet directly to a Visa card, users can instantly use their stablecoin balance to pay for everyday necessities.

The app uses USDPT, a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin issued by Anchorage Digital Bank on the Solana blockchain. Each USDPT token is redeemable 1:1 for U.S. dollars and supported by audited reserves.
