Former 'Wheel of Fortune' announcer Jim Thornton has been at the center of controversy after allegations surfaced that he engaged in an online pedophilia chatroom on a flight from Charlotte to Los Angeles.

The incident occurred on May 14, and according to photos published by TMZ, Thornton's laptop was open to a website called lifeline.chat when asked by a flight attendant to close it. He then typed 'Why You ... to Panic' into his phone's Google search engine, with the AI response suggesting no direct link between his identity and the chatroom.

Thornton was suspended from his job on September 1 and subsequently fired on September 4 after Sony Pictures Television Studios conducted a thorough investigation into the allegations. His lawyer claimed that Thornton did not engage in any illegal conduct and was immediately cleared by law enforcement upon questioning, but photos obtained by TMZ appear to show him participating in an online chatroom with explicit content.

Thornton's lawyer argued that he had misdirected himself to lifeline.chat when intending to visit 988lifeline.org, a website offering suicide prevention support. However, the passenger who snapped photos of his Google query described Thornton as 'nervous' after the flight attendant asked him to close his laptop.
