Whopper Takes Center Stage as Burger King Surges Past Wendy's
Burger King's sales surged 8.5% in the second quarter of 2026, propelling it past Wendy's to become the second largest fast food chain after McDonald's.
The Home of the Whopper's success can be attributed to its 'Reclaim the Flame' campaign, which invested $700 million through 2028 in revamping restaurant design and tech, and putting the Whopper at the forefront.
Burger King president Tom Curtis appeared in a relaunch ad for the Whopper, along with another clip where he was seen happily devouring a Whopper at McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski's attempt to eat a Big Mac.
In contrast, Wendy's saw same-day sales plummet 7% during the second quarter, while McDonald's experienced a flat domestic earnings report despite remaining the undisputed leader of fast food.
