Wimbledon introduces AI-powered fan features with IBM partnership
The All England Lawn Tennis Club has teamed up with IBM to introduce AI-driven fan experiences for this year's Wimbledon tournament. Starting with the first round matches on Monday, June 30, 2026, viewers will have access to enhanced digital features powered by artificial intelligence.
Among the new tools is an upgraded Match Chat assistant, which allows fans to ask questions in natural language and receive immediate, context-rich responses. The system can provide summaries of match events, statistics, and even include relevant photos and videos. Another feature, Key Moments, uses AI to highlight pivotal plays and analyze shifts in match momentum, building on the existing Likelihood to Win tool that calculates victory probabilities.
These innovations are built on IBM's watsonx Orchestrate platform and will be available through the Wimbledon app and the tournament's official website. The project also involved modernizing Wimbledon's digital infrastructure, including migrating over 15,000 digital assets like articles, videos, and photographs to a new architecture. The men's singles final is scheduled for July 12, 2026.
