Windows 11 Ditches Multiple Reboots for Single Monthly Restart

Microsoft has made a significant change to Windows 11's update process. Starting from July 28, 2026, updates will be bundled together and installed in a single monthly restart. This means that users will only need to restart their PCs once a month for updates, instead of multiple times as before.

Previously, users would experience multiple reboots per month due to the cumulative effect of driver updates.NET updates, and firmware updates being installed separately. Microsoft has now combined these categories into a single monthly restart, which will include all necessary updates.

The change applies to Windows 11 versions 24H2, 25H2, and 26H1, and is gradually rolling out with the August 14 Patch Tuesday update. Users can check if they have received the update by going to Settings > Windows Update > Available updates.
