Windows 11 Patch Breaks PC Audio: Bug Hits USB Devices

Microsoft's latest Patch Tuesday update for Windows 11 has left some users without audio. A bug in the KB5124008 and KB5124012 updates is affecting USB Audio Class 1.0 devices, causing a range of symptoms including no sound output, volume controls not responding, and error messages in Device Manager.

The issue is reminiscent of prior USB audio glitches in Windows 11 version 24H2. According to Microsoft, the bug can also affect microphones.

Microsoft has confirmed the bug in a support article and is working on a fix. In the meantime, some users have reported success with switching to 2-channel mode.

The company advises affected users to monitor the KB5124012 and KB5124008 support pages for further developments. The extent of the problem is unclear, but it's not limited to audio devices.
