Windows 11 Users Hit by Mouse Cursor Problems After Optional Update
Microsoft is investigating reports of mouse cursor problems for some Windows 11 users after installing the optional August 2026 preview update, KB5120998.
Affected users report that customized mouse cursors and animations revert to their default settings after installing the update. Some users with high-DPI cursor settings also see larger white cursors instead of their customized versions.
The issue affects Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 client editions, but does not appear to affect Windows Server. Microsoft has acknowledged the problem on its Windows Release Health dashboard and is asking affected users to submit reports through the Feedback Hub.
