Windows 11's Clipchamp Gets AI-Driven Video Upscaling
Microsoft has integrated AI-powered video upscaling into its Clipchamp app on Windows 11. The feature, called Video Super Resolution, converts low-resolution video clips into 1080p or 4K copies by processing them directly on the device. This means users don't have to upload their footage to the cloud.
The tool works by adding visual detail to the image and reducing blur and compression artifacts on the original footage. However, it can't restore details that weren't captured in the original video. The upscaler only generates a higher-resolution copy of a selected clip and doesn't invent new detail.
Clipchamp cited old phone videos and shaky webcam recordings as examples of footage the new tool can improve. To use the feature, users import a clip into a Clipchamp project from local storage or OneDrive and then select it to open the Upscale tab in the properties panel.
