The problem affects both Windows 10 and Windows 11, with Microsoft trying to determine the root cause of the issue. Users may see references to crash events for FileHistory.exe and KERNELBASE.dll in Event Viewer.

Affected devices might display a 'Reconnect your drive' message even when a compatible backup drive is connected and functioning properly. The 'Last Backup' timestamp may not update, and previously backed up files may show 'No previous version available.'
