Wood's Big Bet: ARK Invest Favors Meta Over Google in $56M Big Tech Shift
Cathie Wood's ARK Invest has made significant changes to its Big Tech holdings, purchasing $28.17 million of Meta Platforms (META) stock while selling $27.9 million of Alphabet (GOOGL) on September 9.
The buy and sell transactions suggest that ARK is favoring Meta's aggressive AI strategy over Google's parent company, Alphabet. Meta has been developing AI agents capable of handling complex digital tasks, including its recently launched Muse agent designed to perform tasks autonomously.
META's stock price has risen following a settlement with U.S. states over allegations that Facebook and Instagram harmed children, removing some near-term legal uncertainty. The company still faces other lawsuits and regulatory risks but is ramping up its AI investments, creating opportunities to monetize AI across advertising, consumer products, and agents.
ARK increased its Meta position by 55.2% in Q2 2026, adding nearly 85,000 shares, according to its latest 13F filing. Wood may see greater upside in Meta's AI strategy, particularly its potential to monetize AI through advertising, agents, and consumer products.
