WSL 3.0.2 Update Boosts Server Performance and Storage Efficiency
Microsoft has rolled out WSL 3.0.2, the latest update to its Windows Subsystem for Linux, following last week's general availability release of WSL3 with Linux container support. The new update introduces several key features, including automatic virtual NUMA (Non-Uniform Memory Access) support for large WSL VMs. This addresses a bug reported by an Intel engineer, where WSL failed to launch on hosts with more than 256 threads, ensuring better compatibility with multi-socket servers.
The update also includes experimental support for sparse VHD (virtual hard disk) storage, which optimizes disk space by only consuming storage for written data. Additionally, WSL 3.0.2 fixes IPv4 forwarding issues, enhances container functionality, and adds container health notifications to WSLC events. These improvements aim to streamline the integration of Linux environments on Windows systems.
For more details, Microsoft has provided further information on the WSL 3.0.2 release via its GitHub page. The update underscores Microsoft's ongoing efforts to improve cross-platform compatibility and performance for developers.
