WSL Containers Brings Linux Containers to Windows
Microsoft has made its Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) feature even more powerful by introducing WSL Containers, which allows users to run and manage Linux containers directly on their Windows machines. This new feature is now generally available and can be installed by running the command `wsl --update`.
The WSL Containers CLI, accessible through the `wslc.exe` command-line tool or its alias `container.exe`, enables developers to build, run, and deploy Linux containers on Windows. Additionally, a new API allows Windows apps to programmatically launch and interact with Linux containers.
Microsoft has also integrated WSL Containers with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and Intune, enabling security teams to monitor container activity and restrict access to approved registries. Furthermore, the company is working with various developers' ecosystems, including VS Code Dev Containers and Aspire, to ensure seamless integration.
