WSL Containers Land on Windows, Bringing Flexibility to Developers

Microsoft has made WSL containers generally available on Windows, providing developers with more flexibility and control over their Linux environments. The feature allows administrators to switch off or limit where images are pulled from, ensuring that only approved registries are used. This is particularly important for organizations that require strict security and compliance standards.

WSL containers run Linux containers on Windows through the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). They can be installed with `wsl --update` or by downloading them from Microsoft's GitHub releases page. The feature includes a command-line tool, `wslc.exe`, which has an alias of `container.exe` for developers familiar with container commands.

Microsoft has also added several new features to WSL containers since the public preview, including restart commands, file copying, and health checks. Additionally, editor integrations such as VS Code dev containers and Aspire can now use WSL containers as a default driver.
