Xbox Cuts 268 Roles, Streamlines Studio Structure Amid Restructuring
Microsoft's Xbox division has made significant cuts to its workforce and studio structure in an effort to streamline operations and focus on key franchises. In a memo from executive vice president Matt Booty, the company announced that it had reached 'roughly three-quarters of the way through previously announced restructuring' after cutting 268 roles across Halo Studios and other teams.
The move is part of a larger plan to reduce the Xbox workforce by approximately 3,200 people over fiscal year 2027. The September cuts bring the total number of role eliminations announced so far to around 1,868, leaving around 1,332 still to be disclosed if the company holds to its target.
The reorganization also sees several studios merge or change ownership, with Activision taking over Rare and World's Edge, and Bethesda absorbing Obsidian. The move is aimed at reducing duplication in publishing functions and aligning groups that already work closely together.
