Xbox Denies Sale Rumors, Takes Long-Term View with Microsoft
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has denied rumors that Microsoft is considering selling its Xbox division. Speaking to The New York Times, Sharma stated that 'Xbox is not for sale' and that the company will take a long-term view with Microsoft to set it up for success.
This comes after massive layoffs in July, which affected 1,600 jobs across various studios. The company also divested itself of four studios, Double Fine Productions, Undead Labs, Compulsion Games, and Ninja Theory, and is internally discussing the future of Arkane Lyon.
Sharma acknowledged that Xbox has a long way to go with Microsoft and will need to take a long-term view. The company's profit margins are '3-10x lower than comparable platform and publishing businesses,' according to Sharma, who attributed this to aggressive expansion over the past decade.
