Xbox lands exclusive GTA 6 streaming rights
Xbox has struck an exclusive deal for Grand Theft Auto VI streaming rights, according to sources familiar with Microsoft's plans. This agreement means that only Xbox Cloud Gaming will be able to stream the highly anticipated game at launch, though the duration of this exclusivity remains unclear. Rockstar Games has yet to announce a PC version of GTA 6, making this deal a strategic move for Xbox to attract PC players who might otherwise need a console.
The announcement comes just a month after Microsoft revealed significant changes to Xbox Cloud Gaming. Starting in November, the same month GTA 6 is set to release, streaming hours will be capped at 15 hours for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, 10 hours for Premium subscribers, and just five hours for Game Pass Essential subscribers. Additionally, Microsoft is introducing a pay-as-you-go option for Xbox Cloud Gaming next month, allowing players to purchase streaming hours without a Game Pass subscription, which aligns perfectly with the launch of GTA 6.
During an internal all-hands meeting, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma mentioned that Project Helix, the next generation of Xbox hardware, will consist of a 'family of devices.' She also hinted at partnerships with other companies for some of these devices, building on earlier statements about a strategic partnership with AMD.
