Microsoft has launched its Xbox Disc-to-Digital Conversion system, allowing players to claim a digital version of supported games by inserting the disc into their console.

The feature is currently being tested through the Xbox Insider Program and will be available to all users at some point in the future. The company has announced that it is starting with thousands of titles and plans to add more over time.

Players can claim a digital entitlement by launching the game on their Xbox One or Series X console after inserting a supported disc. This will give them access to features like Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming where available, while still allowing the physical disc to work as before.

Marcus Smith's words in Microsoft's announcement highlight the company's goal of preserving games for players: 'Players have spent decades building their XBOX libraries. Some games were purchased on disc. Some were purchased digitally. Many span multiple generations of hardware. Our goal is to make it easier for those libraries to move forward with players.'
