XBOX Layoffs Affect 268 Employees Amid Major Gaming Division Shake-Up
Microsoft Corporation has announced significant changes within its gaming division. The company will lay off nearly 300 employees, affecting various studios and departments. According to XBOX Content Director Matt Booty, the layoffs will take place at Halo Studios and several other unnamed studios.
The affected parties include the management tier of XBOX and the central office. In addition to layoffs, Microsoft is implementing changes through reorganization: Obsidian will become part of Bethesda, while the Microsoft Casual Game division will be incorporated into King. Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios will merge, and Rare and World's Edge will work under Activision.
Activision will also spearhead the future development of the Halo franchise, with a special team formed for this purpose. A small part of Halo Studios will continue supporting existing projects.
Ninja Theory is facing potential closure as Microsoft has yet to find a buyer and is negotiating its separation. The fate of Arkane Lyon remains uncertain, with consultations expected to continue until the end of the year.
