Xbox Layoffs Fall Short of Initial Target
Microsoft's Xbox division has announced plans to reduce its workforce by fewer than initially stated. In July, the company revealed it would be cutting around 3,200 gaming jobs, but new reports indicate this figure will not be met.
The layoff numbers are expected to fall short of the initial estimate due to Microsoft's restructuring efforts and employee reassignments to other studios. Some game development teams have been divested from Xbox, including Double Fine and Compulsion, which have returned to independent status.
Other studios affected by the latest round of layoffs include Halo Studios, where the franchise has been moved under Activision's stewardship, and The Coalition, World's Edge, Treyarch, and XBOX Game Studios. Microsoft's chief content officer Matt Booty stated that the company is 'roughly three-quarters of the way through' its planned restructuring.
